Sharon A. Lilly is a native Californian and lives in Los Angeles. She has been a watercolor artist for many years. Much of her work is done ‘plein air’ and is she an enthusiastic member of the North East 6 Group – an association of friends who share the love of painting, and who venture out together to paint the wonderful local landscapes on location. The members of the group exchange ideas and discuss their different perspectives, working side by side. From their activities, they are able to learn from one another and help each other grow as artists.

Most of her paintings are of landscapes and still life scenes. They are expressions of her love of California’s natural beauty and, in a way, expressions of the personal bond she has with the area where she has spent her life.

“When I paint, I am translating my gaze into a personal statement that others can experience. At times my painting is an attempt to stop time and hold an image against the inevitability of change. Certainly it is a conversation with the viewer; one that connects our individual experiences of life. I thoroughly enjoy the engagement and focus I experience when I am painting. Still life works offer an unchanging image for experimentation with color, lighting and perspective. I enjoy manipulating shadows and contrast.”

For the past year Sharon has been exploring the use of acrylics as a new medium for actualizing her vision.

Her work is held in many private collections, especially in California, by art lovers who appreciate her renditions of the surrounding landscapes.
