Vincent Serritella was born in 1975 in Miami Florida and he is of Cuban-Italian descent. He is currently living in Los Angeles. The symbolism and philosophy of Latin art, combined with the discipline, craftsmanship and techniques of the Italian masters have had a major influence on his work. “Modern technology and global communications have opened up the doors to many individuals and cultures universally. In a time when so many virtual identities are being created, the questions: “Who am I?”, “Where am I from”, and “What are my passions?” have taken on special meaning and are very important to me.

A canvas opens up that window, onto thought and discussion, and through it I am allowed to share that experience by depicting my reflections as a visual diary.

The combination of oil paint and oil stick permit me to build an optical layering, with a transparent effect where light is refracted throughout the canvas. This gives a sense of depth where two dimensional patterns appear to float over the layers creating juxtaposition between the surface quality and beneath. The symbolism and metaphors throughout my work speak of freedom, influence, escapism, glamour, addiction, heritage, engineering and craftsmanship and through their interpretation I allow others into my personal space.”

"Everything and Nothing" is a series about modern perceptions and exploitations of the female body.

“In this body of work, the image challenges and confronts the viewer to interact with a delicate subject matter in today's accessibility and exposure to confrontational imagery.  Using many delicate materials, I approach the topic as soft, warm, luminous and inviting as possible, bringing the seemingly vulgar body language into a welcoming light through inks, watercolors and rice paper.

I'm interested in the psychology and how ones imagination perceives form and content between negative and positive spaces.   From the material to the framing, all have been strategically predetermined to interact with the human psyche.”
