Tyler Waxman’s abstracts often depict primitive forms within swirling, wild-like compositions or more structured yet, distorted grid-like linear patterns that crisscross the canvas in array. Other works concentrate on simple shapes that are repeated in an almost obsessive way. Throughout each series one can sense hidden complexities of color, of strength and determination that the artist is thrusting into his work. Some of his canvases are built up with interwoven layers of heavily textured paint and encaustic. The raw application of media adds a three dimensional nature to the two dimension works enveloping within the interior layers secretive elements that gush from the artist during the creative process. The real essence of his work is embodied in his distinctive reductive pure strain of absolute abstraction.
If abstract can be likened to music, in its ability to convey emotions, expressive feelings or ideas without reliance upon recognizable objective forms, then Tyler’s work exudes the energy and emotive depth of penetrating primitive rhythms that totally engage the spirit.
Artist’s Statement: “I am an Artist and a Clinical Psychologist. In both fields, I attempt to decipher the conscious and unconscious workings of our mind. It is through these explorations that I create meaning and purpose. In my Art I focus on the process, but am aware of the product. As the organic forms and worlds develop before me, I respond informed by aesthetic, cognitive, and existential concerns.”
