Suzanne Saul was born in a small Oklahoma town. Afterreceiving her BA in art, she moved to California to teach in the Glendale School District.  She continued her education at California State University at Los Angles, where she earned her MA degree.

She is now working full-time on her career as a painter, and showing her paintings and mixed media pieces, locally, as well as nationally.  Suzanne’s work addresses environmental and social issues.

As an artist, my medias include oil painting, digital photography and mixed media sculpture.  I select my media according to what statement I want to convey.

The imagery I choose is related to my environmental concerns, or to my desire to comment on current social issues.  Images of dollar bills or other foreign currency are often used throughout my work.  Money is a driving force in both government and our everyday lives, and affects many decisions we make.  It brings power to people and government, but can be destructive to both.  Environmental damage to our planet is often a result of greed and over consumption.  I try to engender awareness of these forces through my art pieces.

In reference to Eating Crow (The Politician), when one hears the expression, “eating crow,” the phrase is usually uttered because someone has committed a serious error, made a statement in which they are so sure of being correct.  When they are found to be in error, they are humiliated and must “eat their own words.” The crow is a carnivore and is assumed to be extremely distasteful, so the experience is equated to the anguish of being forced to admit one’s fallibility.   Thus this crow is dark, heavily textured and a metaphor of this experience.
