Sona Mirzaei was born in Houston, Texas but was raised primarily by an eccentric aunt in Los Angeles, in a household where she was virtually allowed to be almost completely independent from an early age. The freedom and advantages, accorded her from this rather unorthodox, liberal education, allowed her to indulge her interest in the arts. Her work is inspired by her love of music, classic literature, history, fashion, politics, cinema, figure skating, dance, pop culture, and traveling.
It was through the combination of a family crisis and her exposure to the Los Angeles art community that Sona began to find full expression with her own artwork, producing a series of collages, acrylics, oil paintings, etchings, post cards, and sculptures. After a five-year career in the financial services, Sona decided to make a full-time commitment to pursuing her passion as an artist.
Her first official collection, Musings of a Marchioness was started in 2006 and completed during the summer of 2009. Two pieces from the collection, “O.D” and “Passions Prevail” were official selections of the London International, the second piece being chosen as a finalist. In addition to this event her work has been shown in several public exhibitions.
Sona has established her own company called Sona Abstract LLC where she accepts commissions for fine art work and provides services for creative design projects.
