Born and raised in the Philippines, Ruben Yadao attended the Wesleyan University there and graduated with a BS degree in Agriculture. He immigrated to the USA in 1979 landing first in Hawaii where he graduated from University of Hawaii with a BA in Professional Studies with an emphasis in Business Administration. While working full-time, he pursued his academic studies further and obtained a certificate in accounting.
Since relocating to Los Angeles in 1991 Ruben has continued to advance his professional career. More recently he has completed his Masters in Business Administration in less than two years while working full time as an accounting manager for a real estate firm.
However, despite burgeoning career obligations he has found time to dedicate his energies to his passion for art. His interest and enthusiasm for visual arts has been with him since an early age and he has always “dabbled in painting.” Though he has always possessed a natural gift, his desire to create great art spurred him to eventually take some private art lessons which motivated him to express his talents in hitherto unexplored ways.
Though Ruben enjoys painting in various mediums his favorite is watercolors. The art pieces are created on sheer silk or pineapple fabrics which are stretched and spaced quarter to half an inch over a similarly painted background done on paper or board. Each art piece is uniquely crafted and results in an illusion of unusual transparency.
Ruben is an active member of various art clubs in Southern California including the Glendale Art Association and has won its Artist of the Year several times, a prize awarded for artistic merits, people’s and judges’ choice. He has participated in many exhibitions throughout the Los Angeles area and has garnered ‘Best of Show’ awards including the top prize at the 74th Annual Santa Paula Art & Photography Show at Blanchard Community Library in April 2011 for his mixed media work “8 Horse Power.” He is an avid supporter of the Glendale Open Art Studio Tour which is sponsored annually by the City of Glendale. Ruben has participated many times in the bi-annual famous City of Beverly Hills Affaire in the Gardens since joining this art event in 1994.
His paintings are mostly in private collections in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
