Since childhood, Art in motion has been the focal center of Robin Cohen's career and is an expression of her love for dance and nature.
She now shapes her passion for movement and art into stone, to communicate and share with others, the natural beauty she sees in both.
Having been a professional dancer, a painter and a sketch artist, Robin now devotes her artistic skills towards carving her own life experiences of nature’s subtle dances, into shapes and forms frozen in time. Through them, she remembers the beautiful places of her own childhood, living in the San Fernando Valley, and the years in high school and college where she honed her skills. Now, as a mother of two beautiful daughters, she enjoys, daily, the grace of nature’s beauty through them.
Robin’s talent for stone carving was apparent immediately when she was tutored by the Master sculptor Michele Chapin of Ventura. Her very first piece of work was sold when it was barely finished.
“Working in various media, with my greatest passion creating in stone, I infuse my work with my love of the dance and the beauty of nature. All existence is in motion and my creations are an attempt to capture the energy of a moment in time.”
Since becoming a sculptor, Robin's art has been recognized by such organizations as the Pasadena Society of Artists, of which she is a member, and the curators of the Burbank Fine Arts Center Gallery where she was invited to do a one-person show.
Instead of accepting the honor of a solo exhibition, Robin decided to invite a fellow sculptor, Victor Picou and a photographer called Bruce Burr; together they showed "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" in August 2008.
In addition to her sculpture and painting activities, she will be receiving credit for her work on the film, "The Obama Effect", which is being shot in early 2009.
