Rick Rodstrom was born and raised in New York City, where he attended the High School of Music and Art and New York University. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his dog, Duffy, to whom his site is fondly dedicated.
He has had gallery shows in Manhattan, Queens and New Jersey, and one-act plays performed in New York and Los Angeles. He has also published a novel, Benedict Arnold: How I Started the American Revolution.

Statement:< “Art & Science are complements and not opposites in their description of reality. In the search for Truth, Science proposes that ultimately, there is one single objective viewpoint that explains everything, whereas Art proposes that, ultimately there are an infinite number of subjective viewpoints with their own individual merits. Both views are correct.

To that end I have written an essay called “Nopo: A Unified Theory of Art and Science” which expounds my theories about Art and Science, in addition to discussing how to reconcile Relativity and Quantum Mechanics.

I attempt to reconcile Science and Art, because reality, too, is a creative process. I argue that the Universe is in a state of becoming, not of being, a permanently transitional experience, so that the central building block of reality must be an action, not a thing, a spin, not a substance. Life is a verb, not a noun.”

My artwork is designed to freeze motion, to capture a moment at the sub-quantum level, using abstract methods to render emotional states.

In my pictures, I want to create a harmony between the Organic and the Geometric, the hand-drawn and the mechanically produced. By contrasting the Organic concept of Nodal Points to the Geometric concept of Focal Points, I hope to explore how creation and reproduction intermingle.

Every picture has both a Focal Point---the point to which our view is directed---and a Nodal Point (Nopo for short) which is the point from which a picture emanates.

Being the bi-focal creatures, we naturally see the world from a two-point perspective. Our bi-hemispherical brains are wired to view reality as going from our pupils towards a focal point - like telephone poles and railroad tracks receding towards a Focal Point on the horizon.

There is, however the Organic View, we perceive reality like waves radiating outward in all directions from a single point – a Nodal Point. In this vision of reality an infinite number of radiating Nodal Points twist and turn in Time and Space, creating 2nd generation Nodal Points as they intersect.

I’m an artist, not a scientist, so my explanations for these basic phenomena could be completely wrong. Nonetheless I refer you to what Karl Popper once said about ‘bad’ science—“It is not even wrong”—meaning that it can’t be disproved.
