I majored in art at UCLA. I would have liked to have devoted myself, full time, to art when I was younger but instead of becoming a painter, I took time out to become a mother and raise my children. Later I went into the teaching profession as a high school teacher.
After many hardworking, interesting and rewarding years in both those jobs I have the time to return to art. My children grew up, and flew the nest, and I retired from teaching. Now I am a painter, and I am having a wonderful time.
I love to work “plein air”. I enjoy putting to canvas the beauty of the surrounding landscape; capturing the clarity and brilliance of the California light and the ways it transforms, hourly, the colors of the trees, vegetation and hills.
Each observer perceives the world differently. For me, every canvas is a challenge – to convey through color and composition my view, my perception and my ideas.
I prefer, mostly, acrylic color. It is a medium that facilitates more easily for me what I am trying to achieve. However, I also enjoy painting in watercolors and also have done some collage work. An artist never stops learning how to better his/her work.
For some time I have participated in weekend outings with fellow locals painters who share my enthusiasm for plein air painting. As a group, we often share ideas and learn skills and techniques from each other that help us all progress as artists.
