Norm Maxwell was born in Philadelphia and arrived on the west coast at the age of 20. One of his first works in Los Angeles is the much loved and admired “Black Seeds” mural which was sponsored by the Social & Public Resource Center or SPARC.

In January 2009 Norm Maxwell relocated his studio gallery from Sawtelle Blvd. in Culver City and is now working in Fairfax Ave. (intersection Beverly Blvd.) While presenting his own work at the studio gallery, Norm promotes and exhibits work by young emerging artists from the local scene.

In the early 1990’s Norm co-founded the San Francisco based clothing company, Revolution, distributing his designs to Europe, Japan and the Far East. However, working in music video and set design has kept him based in Los Angeles, where he has contributed to videos for TLC, Destiny’s Child, 50 Cent, Mariah Carey, Black Eyed peas and the red Hot Chili Peppers.

Norm’s numerous talents – artistic, graphic, filmmaking and entrepreneurial- are consolidated into a company called Norm Maxwell Media.

Some of his credits for commercial designs include corporations such as Revlon, L’Oreal, Olay, Carnival Cruise Lines and Lexus. Norm has also directed videos for Janet Jackson and John Legend.

“The Osiris Project” is a sixteen-minute animated film in which Norm Maxwell bring together all of his talents. He has put together a film where modern day film making meets futuristic hip-hop, meets the artistic imagination of Norm’s own perspectives and colorful images.

Norm’s work is a kaleidoscope of hues, textures and urban iconography – “they tell the story beneath the story”- depicting scenes from the crossroads we encounter in our daily lives and the decisions we make that determine the paths we follow. In his work east meets west, black meets white and night meets day.

Norm Maxwell has participated in numerous exhibitions and his works are found in many private collections.
