Lynnda Rakos was born and raised in Montreal, Canada and began her creative endeavors at an early age. Her earliest creations were murals of Japanese Gardens, Gnomes and Dragons painted on the kitchen and bedroom walls of her parent’s home, where her mother still lives and where the murals are still displayed.
A commission to custom hand paint carousel horses at a local amusement center led to making various posters and banners for the local school board. From then on, her life was traced out and her future as a commercial artist and illustrator began to develop quite rapidly.
After moving to Los Angeles, with her husband, she opened a clothing manufacturing business where she designed various lines of children’s apparel until the year 2000 when she decided to leave the business and renew her interest in fine arts.
Drawing inspiration from her own collection of vintage toy robots she began producing whimsical, fanciful and imaginative pieces that have childlike primitive quality and yet are accomplished artistic works.
After losing her husband a few years ago, Lynnda channeled her energies into her art as a therapy to work through her grief. From being, at first, a personal therapeutic aid, her art has, in time, developed into a sustainable career.
She is able to work at something that she enjoys, while ensuring that she remains a supportive mother for her teenage daughter.
"I put life into art. In return art gives me life. I like creating art that makes you smile. Art has always been and will always be a meaniful part of my life.”
While her work has been exhibited in regular art shows, some of her character creations have also featured in MTV shows. In addition to this media exposure, Lynnda has managed to develop an entire business reproducing her characters on everything ranging from clothing, stationery, furniture, toys, ceramics and skateboards- in fact on just about every surface on which she can create the fantasy images she so loves.
One of the recurring subjects in her work (and one that was used in the TV shows) is robots. She also enjoys creating other fun characters- especially animals. Her over-sized “pink dog” character was used to decorate a weekly ‘Pet Segment’ airing on a local news channel.
While working constantly to develop her art as a way to sustain her family and to fulfill her own dreams to be a professional artist, Lynnda has collaborated on projects with interior designers creating unique décor elements incorporated into designs for childrens’ rooms, and is currently working on illustrating a children’s book.
Mom, artist and entrepreneur, Lynnda Rakos is creating her own avenues of opportunity in the world of art.
