I’m a digital photographer who uses art to reflect back to the world the horrors I hear. I reinterpret them and make them not only tolerable but poetic. My aim is to add balance back into the mix as I reinterpret what I see with the naiveté of a being outside of it all. After working in TV news for 20 years I learned how to take a step back driven by fear I would be swallowed up by the daily bombardment of suffering. I find my subjects in a kitchen sink, a pot of water, a greasy pan, in the laundry soaking in a bathroom sink and in the sunlight reflecting from the surface of a swimming pool. I use my camera as a painter uses his brush - sometimes with spontaneous rapidity, other times with slow calculated precision. I handle the camera as if working a canvas, transfixed by the light I see, yet sometimes miraculously capturing the light I don’t see. The results are not typical photographic images with clear defined resolution but rather contemporary abstractions of real subjects. What appears are wide strokes, where I’m able to let the colors dominate the scene.
