My work is a body of records of ideas, thoughts and feelings. My latest body of work investigates the relationship between information and factuality. The texts on the canvas are taken from Google News highlights posted on a particular day as a form of expression of society’s collective conciseness within a time-frame. By covering parts of the text with thick oil paint the information is being denied to the viewer as a way of controlling to a desired outcome. By covering information with completely unrelated and new one, the original information is being manipulated pointing to an entirely different direction which may be contradictory to the facts. In our contemporary society, where information is abundantly available, its manipulation has become a facet of life to serve the interests of originator.
To me art is not what one sees, but it is that which is beyond the surface, that which has direct relationship with the viewer’s knowledge and depth of understanding. Creativity manifests itself in a continual process of events that conclude in a final destination. As an unknown adventure it takes place within the personal wholeness based on the development of one’s intimate thoughts feelings and possibilities at the given time. Thus an artist's imagination is bound to simplicity and, as a rule, is in conflict with common sense. An environment free of common sense invokes the abstract qualities of the thought, thereby stimulating a uniquely energized dialogue. To me, each work is a reflection of the self in fragmented way like pieces of a puzzle subject to “solution”.
I strive not to reproduce nature, as it may be perceived, but to speak of beauty and truth. To me beauty is not comprised of visually attractive elements, but of those elements that are in harmony with each other and its environment. Truth is found where order is absolute and where the essence of harmony is realized. I create the way I feel.
Verbal summarization of an artist's work may introduce a relevant picture, but should not be viewed as the ultimate basis upon which one can rely. It cannot convey the inner factors involved in the creative process in its entirety, which may be known through a particular experience only. Marcel Duchamp eloquently pointed out “art history has consistently decided upon the virtues of a work of art through considerations completely divorced from the rationalized explanations of the artist.”
