My art is a reflection of what differentiates us when we are alone and when we are with others. I enjoy hanging out in different places, recording unique moments with my sketch pad.  In coffee houses and malls people sit and read or talk on their cell phones. Sometimes they are oblivious to the person they're with, and that's OK because it's life.  Life's moving on fast forward and I'm trying to get it all down in different images.  I love it when I notice people who are really into each other and there's no cell phone in sight.  Even a smile from someone serving coffee can make a person's day or a simple acknowledgement of the person behind the counter.  We are all linked together, even if our cell phones try to disconnect us on a human level.  Everyone's talking all the time, even if we can't hear them.

In barbershops I always notice how the person getting the haircut slips into the chair.  There's this sigh of relief as he lets someone nurture him for a few minutes.  The haircut allows one to feel better, to get away from the self-doubts and let someone else listen to our thoughts. There's this cool place where people of all different backgrounds hang out playing chess and backgammon.  The games provide respite but the time spent is about connecting with others. That’s what people do – they meet and connect

Each of us carries within us an ongoing history of where we've come from and what drives us to pursue that truth of what we are. Some are obsessed by what they perceive as acceptable and with others the obsession with the outer image of what "should be" acceptable.

I create abstraction in the reality of the images I observe.  Old photos are also referenced as a way of recycling shared heritage and history. My colors range from overly bright to richly brown and often coincide with my mood and the moods of those around me.  It is a running documentation of my thoughts and who ever I'm thinking about seems to loom bigger in a finished painting.  I sketch, write, and paint onto my canvas swirling colors around and making paths that wind into the distance.  It's my journey which is this quilt of life in front of me and I keep sewing it onto the canvas or panel or old piece of wood.
