Jennifer Hellman was born in New York City to a dancer and a science writer. She studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts and graduated from Bennington College in Vermont with a liberal arts degree. She also holds a master degree in sports medicine from California State University. Jennifer’s unique ‘Photomosaics’ have been exhibited from coast to coast. Her New York shows include the Dean Street Gallery, Studio 4 West, Rio Penthouse Gallery, and the International Contemporary Furniture Show at the Jacob Javits Center. Now residing in Hermosa Beach California, Jennifer’s mosaics have been showcased at Gensler Architecture, Manhattan Country Club, Klade Gallery, Shade Hotel and at Petros Restaurant. She is a member of FOLA “Foundation of Local Arts.” Her work is represented in private collections throughout North and South America and Europe. Currently some of her newest pieces are exhibited at Home of the Avenues in Bel Air, CA. “My raw idea for ‘Photomosaics’ began many years ago with a dream I had following a 1,200 – mile drive through the Rocky Mountains. Now after almost 10 years of photomosaic creations I find myself drown toward more diverse techniques and materials to express my style. Many of the works evolve into multi-dimensional which I refer to as sculptural photography. Often I visit metal and plastic factories where industrial materials add to the unusual nature of my work. In addition to fine art, I design and create functional ‘Photomosaics’; for example I have inlaid coffee and bistro tables with ceramic tile which I prepare one by one in a heat press, transferring the photographic image before assembling. These specially prepared tiles may also be used for pool tiling as well as bathroom walls, back splashes and fireplace surrounds since they are impervious to water and will not fade." As my work is photographically based I am able to create or re-create my ‘Photomosaics’ to a wide range of size specifications. I welcome commissions to design original personalized one of a kind pieces..
