After years of world travel, a successful television, radio, theater and film career in the performing arts, Ione decided to focus her richly diverse talents on the visual arts, and her work has been shown throughout the USA since 1998.
Ione’s artistic expression, creativity, and passion for communication have resulted in numerous awards for her painting, sculpture, mixed media and assemblage. Her work has also featured in several important publications, and she has participated extensively in juried and non juried exhibitions, and in invitational art events.
“Ever since I can remember, I’ve always had a desire to communicate with every person in the world. At first I thought I could accomplish this through travel. And so I did. I traveled to just about every corner of the earth, scouring even remote areas like the Easter Islands, the Galapagos and Myanmar. Almost nothing or no-one escaped my eye.
In every place I visited I taped, recorded and photographed my conversations. My adventures were endless and yet, I came to realize that they did not satisfy my thirst for communication.
It was the same with my performing career. On television, on radio and in the theater I chatted and connected with guests, spectators and listeners. During the years I did countless ‘voice-overs and developed a capacity to mimic just about anyone. If I could see the person I was trying to capture, I could produce the voice or sound.
But despite these circumstances - it was not enough. I wanted to communicate on a deeper level.
Through my art I have found that I can channel my huge imagination and endless driving energy and thrust them onto a canvas, or cast them with clay, or weld them with metal. I can now reach out beyond the limits of my previous endeavors to touch and find love, appreciation and understanding.
