I grew up in San Antonio, Texas. I now live in Los Angeles, California in El Sereno.

 

My art over the years has been influenced by many Mexican artists, including the work of my uncle Frank and his drawings of Pachucos and Mexican movie stars. When I was young, other members of my family encouraged me to pursue my art and I was enthused with a love of art that has never ceased to grow. My brother Leo’s high school cartoon art impressed me very early on, and my father promoted my interest in art by bringing home art books for me to enjoy and study. Often these books were given to him by friends from Caruso’s Café in Austin where my father worked as a chef.

 

I am a self taught artist. Apart from the usual art classes given in public school from grade level through high school I have had no formal training in art and have studied techniques, color and composition by myself. Once, while in middle school (junior high) an art teacher arranged for me to attend a figure drawing class given by Mr. Kelly at the University of Texas in Austin and that is the extent of my academic art education.

 

After a career as a worker’s compensation hearing representative and legal assistant I retired in June 2005. Retirement has allowed me the time to devote myself entirely to my art and to rekindle a passion that has always been present in my life.

 

My work reflects many aspects of Latino culture. It is about the color, the fantasies, the whimsical, the excitement and the world of dreams and deceptions. I want to express in my paintings both the complexities and the simplicities in life.
