Fernando Linhares was born in a picturesque region of Central Brazil in 1963. Family members and friends recognized his artistic talents when he was still a small child and vied to acquire his works. Following what he later regarded as his ‘call in life’, Fernando left his peaceful corner of the globe and journeyed extensively throughout Europe, staying for long periods of time in France and Italy, learning new languages and studying the works of past European masters. Inspired by what he saw and learned, Fernando set to work and completed his first collection of oil paintings in Paris.
Eventually settling in the United States, he soon began to experiment with a variety of mixed media. His earlier paintings evoked mysterious landscapes, a technique that evolved, in time, to more abstract levels. His mixed media, figurative works are composed of bold, elegant lines and brilliant layers of color that combine in to complex, structured textures. Painting in oils and acrylics, he has also created several series of abstract expressionist compositions of intertwining geometric shapes. The interaction of composition and colors infuses the canvases with strong statements of bold brushwork and confident technique that capture the viewer immediate attention.
Fernando Linhares sees his mission as to redefine the accepted boundaries and create new perspectives in order to re-examine ourselves, our cultures and values.
“The intensity of life it’s self, the speed, tensions and moods are the foundations of my art. My paintings usually start with a line or a simple shape that evolves into a complex composition. Viewers’ observation turns into the main subject. To me, art is the combination of often diverse conception in to a complete harmony. Skill and creativity is my primary goals. My goal as a creator is to enrich life thru paintings. My primary focus is on the beauty created by individualities, where viewers wonder and discover something new every day. I react intuitively to an unknown influence which makes my paintings unique and distinct from others. The nonrepresentational art contributes to free the human soul from materialistic contemplation and brings consistent pleasure through the entire aesthetic experience. What I pursue the most in my art is what I still not know what to be, therefore I feel that the freshness of ideas will always exist.”
