Erin Hanson has been painting fine art and commercial work for 15 years. She started out collaborating with a group of artists who created wall-sized murals for casinos and restaurants, in California and Las Vegas. After graduating from UC Berkeley she moved to the desert area so that she could indulge in her sporting activities as a rock climber and also to be closer to the beautiful scenery of Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire.
Erin’s affinity for rocks and desert landscape is quite apparent in her work. Her paintings bear witness to her passion for the majestic natural glory of the Southwest. They reflect her profound insights into the glorious structure of the rocks and the vast open vistas of the desert scenery that she loves so much to visit. Her vibrant use of color and the way in which she captures the intensity of the light elevate these miracles of nature to new heights.
Many of Erin’s paintings mirror her love of the grand landscapes of Joshua Tree National Park in California, where she relishes not only recreating the rocks through her art, but embracing them in her avid love for rock climbing. Her works are genuine acts of love, glorifying Nature and allowing the viewer a glimpse of its bounty as seen through the eye of an adoring observer.
Rock climbers come from all over the world to experience the magic and beauty of climbing at Red Rock Canyon. From the steep, jagged sport routes in The Gallery to the awesome, multi-pitch face routes on The Black Velvet Wall, climbers of all tastes and abilities can find challenges on the superb multi-colored sandstone rocks. Located just minutes from Las Vegas, the setting is unsurpassed and the weather is always warm, making Red Rocks a premier destination for winter climbing.
The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is located just a few miles west of Las Vegas and encompasses 197,000 acres within the Mojave Desert. It is an area of world-wide geologic interest and beauty. There are miles of hiking trails multicolored including the Scenic Drive "loop road," a 13-mile road that leads past Red Rock Canyon, and offers excellent opportunities for bicycling and numerous stops for photography.
Erin Hanson’s paintings are to be found in numerous private and commercial collections. She has shown her work in exhibitions in California and Nevada.
