Born in Mexico, ‘Eros’ Eduardo Obregon has been painting since he was 8 years old. Early on, Eros' mother understood his intuitive artistic abilities and she enrolled him in one of Tijuana's premiere art schools, "La Casa de la Cultura." There, Eros began exploring the world of fine art. It wasn't until Eros moved to the United States, however, that his artwork began to express his own personal view of humanity and spirituality, and, in 2001, he began to seriously focus his vision on a world that he believes is at times locked in illusion. Perhaps the true power of Eros' work is his ability to see beyond perceptional reality. His paintings express a magical quality and an instinctive use of color. They mirror the countless symbols and signs that tap into a greater collective consciousness, forms that depict the archetypal realm lying just below the skin of everyday ordinary awareness.

Three prominent artists have influenced Eros' artistic vision: Salvador Dali, Fridha Kahlo, and Francesco Clemente. Eros explains, "I'm attracted to these painters because they claim their position and express it through their art. With Dali, I'm drawn to his surrealism, of course, and to his erotic qualities, too, but I'm also drawn to his humanitarian philosophy. With Fridha Kahlo, it's the autobiographical elements, for sure, and with Clemente, it's his compositions."

In addition to his studio work, Eros' has painted numerous murals that fall within the surreal/modern realm, with more than a bit of abstraction (especially in the details). In these larger works, that are ‘portraits of life,’ interplay between form and content captures the subjects at hand in a unique manner. The connections and cross-references within these works can, perhaps, be viewed as direct expressions of the artist’s own life’s journey, and his fantasies and fears. They are bold statements, public admission of very private experiences, exposed for all to see, while challenging the viewer to question his/her own boundaries.

*** Many of Eros’ work are available as limited edition fine art prints. He also accepts commissions for portraits.
