Dwight Dreyer is a classical representational figurative artist working only with models or subject matter from life, not photographs.
His interest in art began in the 1960's with a class in Art History while at college.
After a chance meeting in the early 1990's with master sculptor and painter, Vic Riesau, Dwight began studying with him for 10 years dedicating his time and energies to deepening his education in classical art.
He has attended Loveland Academy in Colorado to study with Fritz White, and most recently in 2002 he studied with Richard MacDonald in a juried master’s workshop.
“I have been fortunate to have studied with the right masters over the years to learn classical methods. Figurative work is the most challenging, yet the most rewarding. The human eye, even if not trained will see even minor mistakes.”
Dwight creates bronze sculptures using the “lost wax” method, sculpting the physical image in wax for preparation of a reverse mold to be used for the bronze casting. He maintains strict control over all the stages of the creative process including hands-on supervision and inspection at the foundry. After deciding how many pieces or “editions” he wishes to produce of each individual original work, he will break and destroy the mold when the final edition is cast.
Currently, Dwight is working on a series of medieval legends and martyrs.
Dwight has had variety of careers as a business executive, real estate developer, and a business owner. In the early 80's while traveling around the world he again was drawn to the Renaissance Artists in Italy. “My artistic hero is Michelangelo, his art and genius shine through the ages.”
“Classical fine art sculpture is the visual food of the soul.” - Dwight Dreyer
Dwight Dreyer is a Sculptor Artist Member of the California Art Club and an Associate Member of the National Sculptor Society.
Dwight accepts commissions on all subject matter and in any size up to monumental pieces.
