“My work is a contemporary expression employing the Ancient use of Pigmented Wax known as encaustic which literally means “to burn.” I create the finished painting with several layers revealing a lush landscape of concealment and revelation. Just as life arrives in layers, images arrive in multiple layers as a reflection of life. Worked in thin layers of wax it can possess sheerness and an implied sense of the infinite. The encaustic adds a feeling of mystery with a balance of transparent and opaque areas. I seek to combine the images in a deep, mysterious, and transparent way, resulting in a translucency with a glow that seems to emanate from within. The titles are simply a clue to the viewer.”
“Visionary Poetry” which be accessed on my personal website is a give and take process whereby I create a visual expression of a poem written by Joyce Stein OR where I create the vision and the poet responds by writing a poem based on the art piece. The art piece and the audio recording of the poem are designed to complement each other. The images are created on the computer, printed on canvas, presented on brushed aluminum and finished as an encaustic painting. The encaustic adds a feeling of mystery with a balance of transparent and opaque areas.”
