Daniel Quinones was born in Puerto Rico, grew up in Houston Texas and moved to California as an adult to pursue his passion in fine art and his desire to apply his artistic skills to apparel design. Growing up in a close knit, hard working family with traditional values, he has always had a strong work ethic and the belief that each of us must strike out independently and pursue a chosen path. The values passed on to him by his family are the foundation on which he builds his own life.
Daniel’s art is a product of a vivid imagination that can be sparked at any moment and then floods onto the canvas. “I might be walking along a hallway, and faces and images are jumping out of the wallpaper – like being in a dream while still a wake.”
Often, he finds that what he cannot express in words, he is able to accurately and succinctly express in color, shapes and form. As he has said himself “What I can’t describe with words I can describe in paint. There is no method to the madness, I try to captivate the images and my thoughts at the same time. Once I grab the pencil or the brush, it’s as if I have my mind in my hand and I make the dream into a reality.”
He works rapidly, transposing the images from his mind to the canvas while they are still sharp and meaningful and often incorporates text to strengthen the ‘message’ generated by the images.
As an artist he wants his work to provoke the observer to step out of the daily mind frame, to see beyond the 9 to 5 routine, and think of something that, perhaps, he/she had never considered before.”If somebody looks at my work and is affected by it, whether immediately or later, maybe remembers something about it; whether they love or hate it –is not important- if it has touched them think in some way, that’s what matters.”
Daniel is an accomplished artist in many different techniques and experiments in new media constantly. Unlike many artists, who choose to create in an isolated environment, Daniel loves to share his ideas and to learn from others. He participates alongside other artists in ‘live art shows’, producing spontaneous creations that showcase the respective talents of the artists and add another exciting dimension to the on-going exhibition.
In addition to his fine art, Daniel Quinones runs a thriving business in fashion design, printing many of his illustrative creations on to tee shirts and other apparel.
