For more than 30 years, D. L. Engle has been a full time working sculptor in Southern California. She has a special interest in animals and has been inspired by their beauty, power, and mystery in her artwork. Like many artists throughout history she is captivated by the noble, graceful movements and expressions of both creatures of the wild and domesticated pets. She has acquired a deep understanding of animal anatomy from a lifetime of involvement in a variety of activities where animals can be observed. She frequently attends shows, trials and other events where she can study their poses, attitudes and movements, learning from her live models.

The result has been some of the most desirous and coveted animal art in the world. On this page are some examples of an ever growing collection of wildlife art and selected other artworks.

Ranging from two-inch miniatures to six-foot monuments, her fine art bronzes are noted for their exquisite design and insightful modeling. It is each animal's unique expression and character that D.L.Engle most successfully, and notably brings to life in her detailed sculptural creations.

"There is a quality that animals possess which has intrigued humans since our beginning. Early humans showed their reverence for the animal world by painting them on cave walls and sculpting them into bone and stone. We see distilled in them all the powers and mysteries of Nature. Humans have always longed for a closer understanding and kinship with that mystery". Whether in the maquettes that are a few inches high, or in the much larger pieces, the artist’s special affinity for animals is evident in the authenticity apparent in each work. The intensity and acuteness of the emotional essence renders the work especially vivid. D.L.Engle has created, over the years, numerous sculptures of just about every breed of dog and inquiries about the collections and commissions are invited.
She has sculptured some of the most desirous and coveted animal art in the world.
