In 2002 Bobbie Rich graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in Fine Arts and a Minor in Advertising. She has studied with master artists Bob Alderette, Ron Rizk, Margaret Lazzari, Margit Omar and Ken Price. Bobbie spent a semester in Florence, Italy refining her skills in painting and drawing and learning the finer points of the art of Silkscreen design and prinitng.
She has worked in various fields within the art industry, gaining experience in print advertising, packaging, product and web design. She has taught oil painting, watercolor and pastels at Mission: Renaissance School of Fine Arts and she was part of the team for the Hollywood Beautification project designing and painting murals.
At the present time Bobbie manages and teaches at Budding Artistes School. She also runs her own business, called Bobbie Rich Fine Art where she teaches classes to both adult and children encouraging them to develop their artistic interests and talents.
Her latest work is aesthetically and conceptually innovative. After selecting sterile images from mass media, she transforms them into her own unique form of fine art. The source for each painting starts with several advertisements. Bobbie does multiple blind contour drawings of the figures in the ads, with results that are carefree in nature and sometimes unpredictable. The initial complex, commercial images are transformed into lyrical lines that weave patterns across the page. After choosing the best of the blind contours, she then paints them on to canvasses. The next step involves selecting several specific features of the figures to paint realistically thereby adding a sharp contrast of both painting style, and extra dimensionality within the piece. After filling in the negative spaces with ornate patterns and vivid colors, the final creation has an entirely new aesthetic that makes a bold statement from afar, yet is a maze of detail when closely viewed. Bobbie’s dreamlike images transport the viewer away from the world of commercialism to a simpler world of whim and magic.
Bobbie Rich accepts commissions for artworks.
